Shopping in Poole
With over 100 stores, the Dolphin Shopping Centre is the major retail outlet in the town. The High Street and Old Town offer smaller boutiques; a regular farmers' market takes place every week in Falkland Square.
Things to see and do around Poole
Poole's seaside has enjoyed coveted Blue Flag status for over 20 years. Sandbanks Beach is a popular three-mile stretch of golden shoreline known locally as "Florida Keys". Or there's the more tranquil, wildlife-friendly Canford Cliffs beach nearby.
Poole provides some impressive walks and cycling routes around the bay and surrounding country. For a fabulous sea view—and, at 112 km (71 mi) long, a serious hike—the South West Coastal Path will take you along the famous Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site.
If you fancy a less strenuous walkabout, the Old Town architecture provides a charming snapshot of Georgian life at the height of Poole's prosperity.
Natural beauty spots around Poole
Brownsea Island is a peaceful wildlife haven in Poole Harbour. Maintained by the National Trust, the island is also famous as the birthplace of the Scouting movement, founded by local Robert Baden-Powell in 1907.
Arts and culture in Poole
The town's cultural scene centres on The Lighthouse, an arts complex with theatres, concert hall, gallery and cinema. It's home to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and plays host to major dance, drama and opera companies.
Poole Museum tells in detail the story of the town's rich history. The museum is also worth visiting for the stunning view of the Harbour and Old Town from its visitor lounge and terrace.
Eating and drinking in Poole
As you'd expect from a town with a healthy tourist industry, Poole restaurants offer cuisines from around the world. Fresh seafood is readily available from eateries around the picturesque waterfront and quay.
